i like elsen brothers in richfield. only issue i have with them is that the diagnostic price is not included in the repairs. And they are closed on weekends. i got a new shop near me. honest 1 autocare where midas used to be. but anytime you have the word honest, not sure if i can trust them. bobby and steve's is too over priced. just need an inexpensive, honest mechanic in edina/richfield

I know a guy right across from I-494 in Bloomington, near the Home Depot, that does a fantastic job on car repairs and gives me great quotes. Once again, the name is escaping me right now...(mid-afternoons are the WORST time for my brain!!!).

I can ask my wife if you want the name (if it's not out of your zone)? I'm nearly certain you live near where I did in Edina, so it's accessible.

I use Elsen Brother's myself and wouldn't change because I trust them. I think most places will charge for the diagnosing price. Nothing is free anymore. Anyway, Bob ( co-owner) at Elsen's is a great guy and has worked with me when I thought I shouldn't be charged fully for something. But of course, one has to be reasonable.

Actually, if I move out this neighborhood, I worry where I will find such a great shop like Elsen's again. Lots of snakes out there.

Precision Tune at 54th and France in Edina is great. It's owned by a local family. They are honest and fairly-priced.

I use Steve's Tire and Auto at 46th and Nicollet (not to be confused with the ripoff artists, Bobby and Steve's.)

Now days, all places I have gone to will charge for a diagnostic. However, almost all of them will apply that fee towards any repairs you get done at that place. This helps to prevent people from getting a free diagnostic somewhere and then going to a different place to get the work done. I personally prefer the Toyota place on Brooklyn Blvd in Brooklyn Park. Being a dealership, they do charge more. However, they always figure out issues right away when other places could not. Also, due to being loyal for a few years now, they always cut me some sort of extra deal than the discounts I receive in the mail.

I've gone to a different Honest-1. They're alright. What attracted me is their 3yr/36k mile warranty on repairs. That's pretty much unheard of.
