What's your budget? Do you want to be in the city or the burbs? How do you plan to commute -- car, walk, bus/train, bike? What are you looking for as the place and the neighborhood? Where are you moving from and what types of cities have you lived in before?

Unless you provide this type of information, people will just be giving you their own opinions of what's best.

By budget is around 1100$. I am planning to commute by transit so I would prefer stay near to Downtown.I was from Hartford where normally transit options are not good.

How old are your kids -- do they need to go to school? The more info the better we can help you decide where to locate.

Hi

My kid is one year old so school is not the priority for me. I am looking for easy commute to downtown and some shops nearby.

In that price range with a very easy commute to DT I'd look either in NE Minneapolis finding a 2 to 3 bedroom duplex in that price range should be fairly easy. If you're looking for more of a multi-unit apartment building I'd look in Robbinsdale, Crystal, New Hope, Golden Valley, Plymouth, or St. Louis Park . All of these are 1st ring suburbs with alot of apartments that were built in the 70's and 80's. Most that I've been in are pretty well maintained.

The Mill District and St. Anthony Main are both pretty nice and very close (walkable even) to the downtown core, and IMHO fairly safe.
