You might want to post in the edemocracy forums of Powderhorn or Philips to get a better estimate of the block from neighbors. There is a very neat building a few blocks south with a bunch of artist studios so I've biked through there late at night. My only thoughts were 'my it is surprisingly quiet for being so close to 35W and Lake St.'

Third Precinct is one of the worst in the city. You can find crime maps at the government site.

I think if your budget allows, settle somewhere else. 2nd precinct, NE Minneapolis is still safer.

As a kid I lived in this neighborhood (32nd St & 3rd Ave). As an adult with 3 kids there's NO WAY I'd live there. I've been tempted by a couple nice old houses, close to Powderhorn park, etc. But the school options are brutal, crime is bad, just nothing redeeming about it imo & I'm a city guy.

* The "Central" neighborhood would be wise to choose a new name for itself imo. "West Powderhorn" or "Midtown" would sound soooooo much better than "Central".
