We're looking for rentals in Wayzata and wondering what sort of place it is. We've lived in Uptown, St Paul (Grand Ave) and west Bloomington before, all rentals. Have never been to Wayzata, just passed it on the freeway, but hear it's an upscale place. I like being able to walk places, and how it sits on the water, but am wondering if people are snobby at all and whether 'slightly' alternative folks like ourselves will be accepted, and perhaps even find likeminded. We're in our mid-30s with two boys, 11 and 5, who will most likely be homeschooled.

Any other comments on Wayzata, besides its inhabitants, are welcome too!

We're also looking at Minnetonka, but having a hard time finding rentals in buildings without an underground garage. So if you know of any, let us know! Chanhassen is a possibility too, and any info on that suburb is appreciated also.

Things that are important to us besides walkability, are after school activities (theater, martial arts, music), good library, farmers' markets, nature.

Wayzata is fantastic, walkable and it's definitely upscale. It's a real town since it has a grid system and business on the street level. I think the "snob" factor is way overrated personally; there are gonna be snobby people but most people in Minnesota are pretty nice in my experience.

Chanhassen - Minnetonka - Eden Prairie = ultra boring, unwalkable, sprawling mess

Thanks!

Yeah, ultra boring suburbs has been my impression of both Minnetonka and Eden Prairie. I'd live in Minneapolis again if only the traffic and pollution wasn't so bad, and the constant noise from the airport. Been away for too long to be able to put up with that again.
