we were looking at living in Hudson WI (where some family is) but someone here suggested Woodbury. What would the commute be like from Woodbury to 31st Ave S in Minneapolis? We are not from MN so in need of help. Thanks so much.

Woodbury is really big so it depends on where you are - but the commute shouldn't be too bad. I would say on average 30 minutes depending on where you are coming from and what time you are traveling. Woodbury is a nice family-oriented suburb. I also need to put in a plug for Stillwater which is where I live. Check it out, you will be pleasantly surprised. The commute will be slightly farther than Woodbury but probably not as bad as Hudson.

Hudson is only 5-10 min past Woodbury on 94, depending on traffic.

I-94 is usually pretty bad going trough St. Paul during the rush. I personally would not like that drive every day. If your going to work in Minneaoplis, I would suggest living in Minneapolis, one of the inner ring burbs, and the west side of St. Paul is really nice, but can be kind of spendy.

It can easy be a 75 minute commute from Hudson to Minneapolis during the hours of 7:30am-8:30am and in the evenings the rush begins around 4:30pm. On Fridays, especially in the summer, the rush hour begins as early as 3:00pm. If you can avoid all traffic, it can be driven in 45 minutes, depending how far into Hudson you are, off of I94. Some areas of Hudson are 10 minutes away from the interstate, and some streets in downtown Minneapolis are more time consuming to get to.

Hudson WI is an absolutely beautiful place to live! If you don't mind the commute, you would be picking a great place to live. Woodbury is a different kind of place -- definately upper class suburb, while Husdon has remained more small town even though there is a bit of new development.

I would not want that commute every day.

If this makes any difference, my friends in Hudson tell me the taxes are killers and everything they do (doctors, etc) is in Minnesota, including phone calls. So does it really pay to live in WI while working in MN?

Yes, Hudson is very nice I would love to live there too, but don't because it would not be practical since my life is in Minneapolis. Figure in the cost of gas with the commute too...

Default work in the city? live in the city!

If you work in the city, live in the city. The planet can't handle 160,000 people driving into Minneapolis for work each day, and your psyche probably wouldn't like it either. Seriously. Not to sound sanctimonious, but it's not acceptable to drive that much, and our society needs to start realizing it.

Besides, did you ever see Edward Scissorhands? That's what Woodbury is like. Say goodbye to your individuality.

If you are traveling non-rush hours this is true otherwise it is a brutal drive. Traffic between Minneapolis and St. Paul during rush, no matter which direction you are heading is horrible.
