Hello all!

Just a heads up to everyone with small children and outside pets. About 5:00 today, (Wednesday), I saw 2 wolves in woodbury. They were just south of Hudson rd and heading east towards manning ave.

Sure they were wolves? Probably coyotes, which are all over the metro.

sounds like they are heading away from the Target Center and seeing the Spurs are in town it probably isn't that surprising.

Golfgal,

I grew up in western Minnesota. I am a former deputy sheriff, and dispatcher. I know the difference between a wolf, and a coyote.

I guess I don't get how those qualifications make a difference. Do you have a photo?

Could you give us examples of how their mating calls, hunting calls, pack calls differ.

Golfgal, and others.

Growing up in rural Minnesota gives people a much better chance of seeing wild animals, as opposed to those growing up in a more urban setting. Being a law enforcement officer gives my words more weight then say, a Golfgal... And finally fossil, I could give you a quiz on the different calls wolves and coyotes make but, it would be easier to just show you the tracks and let you determine what made them. Simple for me, for you...I don't know. You might think they are t-rex tracks...

I would choose to trust the wisdom of a law enforcement official. There were some mountain lion sightings in towns near me last year and we don't quibble or debate about whether they might be large cats, lynx, or bobcats. We take it seriously. Better to be prepared for the worst and protect young children. BTW, there is no incentive for an officer or former sheriff to lie about something like this IMO.
