Sorry, nearby Orange County is, my mistake. The point is, Casinos are being built everywhere these days. They're seen as a cash grab for the state for money that would otherwise go out of state. They're no longer seen as negative in most places, and as long as they're integrated into the city's fabric, as Cleveland's is, I think they're a good thing. Cleveland's is actually built in a historic former department store that sat vacant for years, so it's certainly a move in a positive direction.

They are mostly just an additional tax for stupid people, used when a city can't attract real business to it's core.
It hasn't been working out too well for atlantic city recently. The one in Orange is just a last gasp by the NYC gaming groups.
Even vegas casinos are mostly nightclub destinations now, and the owners focus on their macau properties for gambling.

Well, that's not the case here, nor is it in Boston where one is being planned. Cleveland's Casino is very much an urban casino. It's become part of the fabric downtown, not a walled off fortress as many casinos are. It was never intended as a panacea for Cleveland, and in fact was initially not supported by Cleveland's mayor. It was a venture by the Cavs owner to generate some synergy between the two businesses. It's a nice entertainment option, and also draws a lot of business travelers who stay at nearby hotels. There's always an interesting mix of people there.

It's hard to decide if MN sucks because of the insular white people or the marauding foreign gangs.

I blame it on the "Minnesota Nice," aka not really nice. It's deeply entrenched in the culture.
