Mendota Heights/Lilydale has some really nice walking trails. I like the old railroad bed that runs parallel to the river, it is paved and nice and level. There are more challenging trails nearby too.

Another recommendation for Theodore Wirth Park here- we went to the Eloise Butler Wildflower garden there this week (one if the parks within the park) and it's beautiful.

North Mississippi Regional Park is also a good nature hike. Both of these parks are actually pretty close to freeways (esp north Mississippi), but at Wirth you can only tell/hear noise in certain locations.

-MN National Wildlife Refuge: Visitor Activities - Minnesota Valley - U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
-Woodlake Nature Center (although longest path isn't quite 2 miles long) http://www.cityofrichfield.org/modul...ocumentid=1533
-all of the lake paths in Minneapolis
-Minnehaha Creek paths (make it a loop by doing roads one way and paths the other...maybe Lake Harriet and then south east to 35W and back)
-Wolfe Lake in St Louis Park (also just shy of 2 miles, but park by the aquatic center and walk around that park too): Wolfe Lake: Minnesota DNR
-Minnehaha Falls paths
-There's another one in Richfield, but I can't remember the name...just north of Woodlake, west of Lyndale

Are you familiar with geocaching? The geocaching.com website is a great place to find interesting places and walks since people place caches where they like to walk. We've discovered some really cool local places and beautiful walks this way.

This is a wealth of info--thanks!

I'll go back through and mark places on a map for further research and future reference. It's great to hear about other parts of the TC; we know our current corner pretty well, but there's a lot out there we're not familiar with. Every bit helps.
