I would like to see another tall skyscraper go up in minneapolis that would break the 1000ft mark. and what the heck ever happend to the nicollet? anyway the ids is 57 floors and 787 feet tall. chicago has a 2000ft 160 floor building going up, thats almost 3 times as tall as the ids. big cities have big buildings. last time i checked the twin cities metro area had 3,502,891 people. mineapolis is huge and should have some huge buildings to go along with that.

you find businesses to take up all the existing vacant office space downtown and we'll talk about throwing up another skyscraper.

The Nicollet will be a hotel/condo development at best. Anyways, the office market downtown is saturated. A 1000' could be either mixed use, or could be office once the market gets back up. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw one within the decade. Minneapolis has a very sizeable skyline in relation to our population. We deserve it figuring how dearly we paid for it.

I thought it was an unwritten rule that the IDS tower would remain the tallest building in Minneapolis?

I thought so also, Golfgal. But rules can change, especially where money is concerned.

And the same was with the Foshay Tower In general, the taller the building the more $$$ a company is worth-at least that's how it used to be (definitely phallic), and with the amount of multi billion dollar multi national companies around the TC, you'd think that there would be more. Personally I think that downtown is going to grow outwards, not up.

I think there kinda is, and I don't know why. The IDS is nice architecturally, but when there are these sort of gentlemens' agreements, it usually protects the city symbol; The Saint Louis Arch, Phila. City Hall. The IDS is not a city symbol. They usually get broken eventually anyways.

But it was a symbolic achievement. Foshay Tower was the tallest building for what, fifty years?

if you look at skyscraper page chicago has 8 building over 700 feet under construction whats there vacancy rate for office space? and whats minneapolis's vacancy rate? we do have a good size downtown but im curios as how chicago is filling up 8 huge towers and not only that there is many more way over 700 feet in the planning. i was excited about the nicollet and now im pretty sure thats not going to happen. with chicago having a huge downtown already im impressed that they are in need of so many more towers in such a small period of time.

I wouldnt be surprised to see Target do something with a large tower in Minneapolis. They are already looking at trying to buy the site that the Nicollet was planned to be built on, unless it doesnt fall through and becomes a reality.
