We will be relocating to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area in the late spring. We really like some of the apartments we've seen in the Plymouth, MN area but my job is going to be in downtown St. Paul. We're not sure yet where my husband's job will be located. Does anyone know if this will be a bad commute with a lot of congestion? Any idea of how long the average commute from Plymouth to St. Paul is during rush hour? Thanks!

Plymouth's big, so depending on what part of Plymouth you're living in, you're looking at anywhere from a minimum of 30 minutes to close to an hour. Snowy days, longer - maybe a lot longer. The entire city of Minneapolis is between Plymouth and St. Paul, and that's a big pile of traffic to fight your way through in rush hour. If your job has any sort of flex-time option, even a half hour earlier start can make a huge difference.

Plymouth is way on the wrong side. Timing will make a difference, but I would pick a closer suburb.

Thanks for the advice. I've done a little researching with Google maps and I was kind of concerned that Plymouth might be a longer commute than I'd prefer.

Not a commute you probably want. There are several nice apartment complexes in Inver Grove Heights and Eagan that are easy commutes into Downtown St. Paul. Some are regular apartments other are townhome style rentals. Most of the IGH ones are along Highway 494, Eagan they are around Lexington and Yankee Doodle Road if you want to look on a map. I can't remember specific complex names though, sorry.

OP, you might want to consider the Woodbury/Lake Elmo/Afton area. It has a lot in common with Plymouth in many ways, and you'll save hundreds of hours of rush hour driving each year. I lived in that part of the metro for many years before moving out of state a few months ago, and I think very highly of it. I lived on the western edge of Woodbury, and I was 10 minutes from downtown St. Paul on a good day - 15 or 20, tops, on a slow day.

Hmmm... Let me try this again. This is a very bad commute. Perhaps the worst in the Twin Cities. I lived in Plymouth. You can find similar apartments all over and would be better off moving to St. Paul or one of its suburbs.
