Hello, wife was offered a postion at St. Joseph Hospital and we are coming up there on tuesday to look around and then meet with the manager at hospital on Wendsday, then meet with a realtor that evening. Need some insight on where we should look to find a house.

Wife will be working 12 hours shifts day/night rotation and be working 3 days a week. Schools are number 1 on the list with 2 children 11 and 8. We will be renting for a couple of years and would prefer a house. We also do not want to live right in the city. commute time would like to be around 35 min as that is what she is used to now, of course that is without snow we understand that could add another 20min on top of that time. Also any places that you would advise us to stay away from would be appreciated.

thanks in advance

I would check out Stillwater (assuming you mean St. Joe's in Maplewood). Simple, easy 10-15 minute commute with basically no traffic. Stillwater is a great town, great schools and you should be able to find something to rent out there.

There are St. Joseph's hospitals in St. Paul proper, Maplewood and Woodbury.

St John's is in Maplewood. St Joe's is downtown St Paul. Same company. Check out Stillwater, MN and Hudson and River Falls, WI. All healthy, growing communities.

Also, consider Eagan, MN. Straight shot up 35E into DT St. Paul.

That is also an EASY, EASY commute. As for schools, if you look in Eagan, get into the area that is either 196 (Rosemount, Apple Valley Eagan district) or 199 (West St. Paul, Mendota Heights, Eagan district).

If you are willing to drive 30 minutes, check out Rosemount. It is about 20-25 minutes from our house to the Excel center parking ramp, so similar to St. Joe's. It is a GREAT community, EXCELLENT schools. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the schools. The middle school here is excellent as are the rest of the school but middle school is a tough age and they do things well here.

There is a nice house not far from us for rent, I can get you the phone number off the sign if you like. There are several houses for rent as the housing market is so slow. It is a good time to by though if you are leaning that direction at all.

Thanks for all the replys, just got back Thursday night and we really loved it. Did some shopping in Woodbury, and went to Mall of America. We took the Job so it is looking like moving by the end of January.

Golfgal, you can get the number for us, is it at least a 3 bedroom? we are already excited and hated to leave, can't wait to get there.
