Hello,

I'm planning the birth of my first baby and was hoping for a recommendation for a hospital where I could give birth with a midwife. I haven't decided yet what kind of birth I want, but I am looking for a place with supportive and knowledgeable staff, good neonatal care, and a warm and cozy environment. Although we think we'd like to be in a hospital to give birth-- ideally I don't want to feel like I'm in a hospital. I've read previous posts that recommend HCMC or Methodist. I'm leaning towards Methodist just because it can be hard to get downtown during certain times of day.

Thanks for your input!

Look into United Hosptial in St. Paul, easy drive from Bloomington. Will your insurance company allow you to go anywhere or are you restricted in any way?

I believe there are some restrictions- haven't checked if United is covered yet. I'm actually on the West side of Bloomington, so it seems a little far-- but maybe worthwhile for the right hospital. What do you like about it?

I am also looking at hospitals near Bloomington. I want a similar kind of birth that you want. Have you found any good information? Is it easy to find out what a hospital is really like/what it's statistics are (how many c-sections, inductions, etc)? I'm new to MN, so I don't have much to go on!
