Hello Guys I am a recent College grad I posted on here before but need still some help and input. I have a bacholer's degree in Communications and Marketing and I trying to get a job in marketing, account Manager or advertising. I currently live in Kentucky and I was wondering do anyone in Minneapolis/ St Paul area know any companies that will fly someone in for a interview and recruit them and provide relocation assistance? I see a lot of entry level jobs on career builder and craigslist. But none of those help with relocation assistance or fly you in for an interview. Also what are some temp agencies that you could get a fast job at for a income stream til you find a permanent job position? Any help will be appreciate it thanks guys.

Not many companies will offer relocation assistance for entry level jobs. You might see that in some engineering firms or more tech jobs but even then it's few and far between.

With phone interviews, Webex, Skype, etc. a lot of companies just do long distance interviews that way.

try "Indeed" Job Search | one search. all jobs. Indeed.com

I agree you wont get someone to pay for your relocation most likely, but you can always try.

I'm in a similar field (communications/marketing/PR/advertising). First, don't expect any relocation help or recruiting. Honestly, this field is high-pace and has enough people graduating each year that they don't need to look for people at the entry-level. Those people come to them. If you can't travel up here, see if you can do a Skype or phone interview. Many of them are okay with that. Otherwise, you might need to suck it up and buy a ticket to visit.

If you want to get in with an agency and you don't have much/any experience, you'll likely need to find somewhere that will take you in as an intern. Many of the agencies here have paid internships that they use as a funnel for new talent. After the internship ends, they either drop you or hire you on. Also try looking for jobs in the Minneapolis Egotist, the local PRSA and advertising websites, etc.

If you are looking more corporate side, skip most places like Monster or JobBuilder. They're filled with useless, spammy stuff. Surprisingly, the best jobs board I've found for this area (at least in communications) is JobsInMinneapolis. I've never actually applied through there, but when I was job searching, I found a lot of really great stuff.

As for temp agencies, I'd recommend looking at a place like The Creative Group. Right after college, I did an AmeriCorps gig and made a connection with a board member who worked at the parent company of The Creative Group, so he hooked me up with one of their specialists. They found a few possible jobs (I ended up getting something outside of their help), and they seemed very professional. Definitely worth a look.

Companies definitely won't pay to fly you just for an interview. That's a huge expense. Maybe for a senior executive they are trying to woo, but there are too many people looking for a job to offer that service to anyone and everyone.

Having moved across the country for my first job in PR, my advice is to save your money, explain in your cover letter that you don't need relocation assistance and are ready to move at a moments notice. Give reasons why you are pursuing a job at that particular company, but don't expect any help. As I said, it's too expensive and frankly there are too many local people who would probably be just as good. You don't want to give them a reason not to hire you.

Building off this, I'd say it's best to try and hide that fact that you're not local if at all possible. With so many applicants for every single job, computers (and HR people) are looking for every opportunity to whittle the pile down. Don't exactly meet the qualifications? Tossed. Have a single grammatical error? Tossed. Live out of town, which makes the hiring process more difficult? Tossed.

Best to wait for them to decide they want you. Then you're in a better position to ask for the Skype or phone interview and let them know that you're looking to move ASAP.

If you think companies are going to pay for your relo and fly you in when they have plenty of locally available entry level candidates, I have a bridge you might be interested in buying...Seriously, that type of thing may have happened pre-recession, but it is no more. Some fortune 5's won't even do it for executive level employees. Be prepared to foot this move on your own. General Mill's MIGHT do it, but I doubt it. Fortunately, you're young and its relatively easy. Temp agencies that my friends used in the cities were Aerotek and Robert Half/Accountemps. Especially with Accountemps, they all went to work at Wells Fargo. Lots of recent grads are hired by Target as well.

Sadly, Target may not be a viable option in the short term.

Just to reiterate what others are saying- because it's important- do not expect anyone to fly you in for an interview or fund your relocation. It's just not a reasonable expectation. I think a trip to the cities for interviewing may be all but necessary. Unless there's something truly incredible in your resume, HR departments and hiring managers will pass over your resume because dealing with someone remotely will be too much work.
