I did just that. I lived in Minneapolis for about 10 years and left in 1987 vowing never to move back again. The city wasn't for me. My theory is that a city has a personality of its own and just as 2 peoples personalities can clash an individuals personality can clash with the personality of a city. I was sick of the extreme political correctness and the ongoing tension between the white males and white females due to the extreme radical woman liberation movement. Of course every city in America had some of that but I traveled to many cities and never felt the extremes that I felt in Minneapolis. I was also sick of Minneapolis taking in all those third world people and more than any other city in America. But what really got to me was the fact that Minneapolis was the pimp center of the U.S. So much of that stuff was going that New Yorkers called one of their prostitution strips the Minnesota strip. It was the unconcern about all that by the average person that bothered me a lot. And there was absolutely no concern whatsoever to preserve any historic architecture in the city. I saw beautiful buildings bulldozed right to the ground and not a peep from any community leaders or anyone else. From Minneapolis I moved to Chicago and found the people to be straight forward and real and much more friendly that Minneapolis people.

The bulldozed architecture was indeed a travesty that the city is still trying to fix.
The rest of it sounds suspiciously like a song from a Tom Waits album or a movie starring Clint Eastwood.
