Hey, I'm new to the area, and both of my son's need haircuts bad!! I live in NE Mpls and looking for a good barber who can cut black hair, and is exceptionally good at the "Usher fade", thats what my son's call it. Any help in locating a good barber close-by would be great! I'm not looking for a salon, just a barber for my boys. Thanks much, trendycat

Absolutely!! LOL, sorry. I'm not racist or prejudice. The race of the barber makes no difference. I'm only looking for experience, technique, and their ability in understanding how to do the "Usher Fade".

Typing Minneapolis & "usher fade" in google pops up a myspace page for someone who's probably your kid's age or closeabout (he's 20).

Alternatively you could call up the Urban League and ask there, they probably have a black business directory floating about. Since part of their job is also helping with job skills (read: presentation, read: grooming) they might also be able to connect you with a good barber but that's just a guess ... no guarantee it won't turn into a bit of work getting you to the right person.

WOW.....this really is frustrating. I'm having no luck at all. There's gotta be some black barber shops around, or someone with some information on some.....???

I don't know if this qualifies as a 'black' barber shop but there is one at the Burnsville Mall where the barber is black. I don't know what the usher fade is or if they do that but it would be worth a call. If you Google Burnsville Center you should be able to find the name of the barber shop. I know it isn't Minneapolis but it is an idea.

Why are barber shops/ hair salons such a hot topic on this forum? I would go to this site: http://www.switchboard.com/swbd.main...f-cb064e70dd4f - you can click on more information and i think it tells what styles they do...

I'm not sure about NE, but North Mpls definitely does not have a shortage of barber shops in the area - broadway, fremont, lowry aves all have a number - just hop on 42nd, lowry, or broadway bridge and go west.

in my neighborhood on the intersection of 44th Ave N and Penn Ave N, I believe there is still both a white barber shop and possibly a black barber shop there although I'm not sure if the black-owned barber shop is still there or not....if they aren't, I've seen that the white barber has black clients so he probably knows how to do a fade (which is kind of funny as he definitely looks like the classic middle-aged midwestern guy, has his trophy fish mounted on the walls, etc) - not sure about the usher fade though!

The barbershop at the Burnsville Mall is called Coach's Barbershop. I don't know much about black hairstyles but I know the owner is a black guy from the North Side named Coach P. The business is really neat. and I think the whole idea of having a barbershop at a mall is incredibly smart. Apparently the guy has his stuff together and also got other types of ventures going on.Neat looking place.
