Now the city just needs to add another 121,000 people to reach its all time high of 521,000 in the 1950s.

Note the desire to create housing for larger families in the city, which is exactly what I said would be the trend in the Suburbs vs city thread. That will be the next phase: larger apartments/townhomes for families to live permanently in the city and as a result there will be increased funding and resources for education, etc. Look for major museums projects and more on the horizon. This is not a short term trend. Unfortunately that means it will become more and more expensive to live in the city.

The upside is that for folks like me who are moving back to MSP from large metros like LA: 1) There is an improved urban experience to fulfill the 'big city' cravings. 2) the close outlying suburbs will experience much slower growth compared to the city proper and therefore housing will remain comparatively affordable. I mean that quote from the person who is moving from Golden Valley to downtown is awesome because for someone like me that commute would be nothing at all. I'll gladly take the Golden Valley house and the 15 min drive to the Guthrie theater or the Walker or the lakes.

I think Northeast is going to experience major growth as well as the west and south is well developed and congested.
