I am a recent transplant to the Twin Cities metro area, and will be living in the southwest suburbs. My annual salary will be just over $100,000. I am early 30's, single, no children and healthy. Will such a salary be sufficient to live comfortably in the suburbs? I do not spend excessively on material possessions and usually cook my own meals.

That's approximately the median family income in the wealthiest sw suburbs.

Even in New York City $100K would probably get you a pretty comfortable life. You'll be fine.

Thanks for the responses. I didn't really have doubts -- just wanted to gauge the overall cost of living. Based on home prices/rents in the area, it seems like a moderate cost of living region.

Every facet of living is moderate besides the winter.

I suppose it wouldn't be sufficient if you're looking to buy an incredibly expensive (and probably large) house in the southwest suburbs.

Otherwise, you'll be fine. The Twin Cities is a pretty moderately priced metro (certainly cheaper than the East Coast).

Is this a serious question?

My sister and I work crummy retail jobs and we survive just fine. Lots of people do

No.

You should consider applying for food stamps upon moving here.

If I were you I'd give some consideration into living IN the city, either Minneapolis or St. Paul, if you're single and looking to mingle and meet new people. That's not to say it can't be done in suburbia but your chances are better in the city, AND with your income you could afford a pretty toney new apartment in one of the newer developments sprouting up all over the cities. Avg. rent is about $1,000 for a 1 BR place but the newer buildings are looking more like $1,400 and up, or $2.00 to $2.50 per square foot.

Good luck, but I don't think you'll need it!
