I travel from WBL to Coon Rapids often. Going on Main Street the entire way*, it takes about 20 to 30 minutes. However it is a one lane road for some parts and if you get behind a slow truck or someone it can lengthen the time. Have gone to WBL from Coon Rapids at rush hour at nigh and it is about the same time. It's nice ride, but seems long because its about one road.

* 61 north to Frenchman Road which becomes Main street. Then straight out to Central Avenue or Foley or Hanson Blvd.

The time is no better and sometimes much worse. 694 west to 35W north to 10 west to your exit in Coon Rapids. But going up to 694 to start with is out of the way in most parts of WBL so doesn't make much sense.

Agreed. I have made this commute a number of times. Expect about 30 minutes on average. Give or take some time based on rush hour.

694 can be really useful if you are anywhere near the southern part of White Bear Lake. 694 will likely be the shortest route distance-wise because it has a significant diagonal section between 35E and 35W. Traffic can bottleneck west bound in the mornings though. Once you get onto U.S. 10 you likely will see no traffic issues to Coon Rapids because you will be going reverse commute.

694 has been under construction and even when it isn't , it's never helpful during rush hour period, don't even try if you can avoid it all the better. If it's not rush hour then maybe, but only if you are that far south.

The shortest and most times, quickest way from White Bear Lake to Coon Rapids is to drive straight west on County Road 96 to Arden Hills, then enter the US Highway 10 freeway westbound remaining on US 10 until the various Coon Rapids exits: University Avenue; Foley Boulevard; Hanson Boulevard; Main Street; etc.

On average, the rush hour commute should take 25-35 minutes depending on traffic, and I do know folks who live in White Bear Lake and work in Coon Rapids. Your commute would be a reverse commute as most travelers live in Anoka, Elk River, Andover thus take US Hwy 10 to their jobs in either downtown Minneapolis, downtown St. Paul or some of the first-ring inner suburbs.

Best of luck on your move!

The commute has been lengthened using 96 from White Bear Lake since it's been under construction. But even when it's not under construction it can take 30 minutes just to get to 35W going down 96 if you hit lights. Then get on 10 and start your commute another 20 minutes. I've done it for years. Once in a while if the lights are all green and there is no rain or snow or traffic you can make it in 20. However I can get to Hanson and Main street in 30 minutes going north on 61 and west out Frenchman Road which becomes Main street.

From Shoreview I would use US 10 and go to my exits and it's 20 minutes once you are on US 10.
