Plenty of software engineer jobs in MN. There is always a shortage of qualified people. Remember that unlike most cities, MN doesn't attract a ton of people who move there from other parts of the country. So it has to depend mostly on homegrown talent from MN and the surrounding states. And for all of the big companies based in MN, there just aren't enough qualified IT people. Your husband will find a job with no problem at all.

FWIW, Minnesota consistently comes out in the top 10 for public education. My wife, a school psychologist by training, would not have let us move here if public schools were poor. Trust me, almost ANYTHING is better than the #47 that your california public schools currently rank. I was lucky enough to grow up in SF in a family that could afford private school. Even in the 70's and 80's SF public schools largely sucked, except for Lowell.

As a 6th generation Californian, I can reassure you that you wont miss CA that much. The winters are cold here, but everything else is really nice. As for tech stuff for your spouse, as others have said, there's plenty going on. Dont forget: 3M, best buy, Imation and Target all have their world headquarters here. Good luck in your decision.

Kilt -- I so agree with you!
As a native Minneostan, with family back home, we cannot wait to escape CA and move back to MN!!!
Trying to make it happen my spouse has a great job so we have to try to duplicate that or something similar to make the move.
It's reassuring to hear I'll adapt to winters again!!! It's been 15 years... but every visit home, I've missed it!
