We are looking for places to live in the area. We need a 3 bedroom house for less than $1500 a month with a great school district. Any tips on where we might have the best luck with our search?

District 196 is one of the top school districts in the state and serves Apple Valley, Rosemount, and parts of Eagan, the latter which borders Mendota Heights. Any of these three towns would be an easy commute to Mendota Heights.

I say ditto to Rhody2MN as well if you have kids going to public schools. You can check out the areas available to District 196 here: Welcome to Independent School District 196 ( In general, the southern end of district 196 will have lower housing costs but be a slightly longer drive for you but the whole school district is fairly close to Mendota Heights.) Buying a house, a 3 bedroom, should be doable in the low 200K range, maybe lower than that for something a bit beat up, and renting for $1500 should not be an issue.
