Hi everyone!

I'm new to the forum and my Wife and I both live in an apartment building in Edina. We are paying 1170 a month for a 1 bedroom in an apartment building we very much dislike. We moved out here this past July from the beautiful Fair Oak Apartments in the Whittier neighborhood of South Minneapolis. Needless to say, we miss the city, and would like to move back. We live in "luxury" apartments, and greatly miss the simple apartment we had at Fair Oaks. Since we've moved out here, we've adopted 2 cats, so moving back to Fair Oaks isn't an option unfortunately.

We're wondering if anyone can recommend and apartment building anywhere around Whittier or Uptown that they have loved living in, and is maybe a little more reasonable, maybe 800-900 a month for rent. We're hoping for somewhere clean and somewhat quite with great neighbors, since we are 30 and not into partying. I go to school full time at the U and work at an accounting firm downtown, and my Wife works in Edina, though we don't know for how long.

I found out about Fair Oaks on this forum long ago, and I really hope we can get lucky again!

Thank you everyone and sorry for the repetitive thread! Please help us get back to Minneapolis!

Nick

Looking on Craigslist may be your best bet, just because there are so many smaller cat-friendly buildings in Uptown, and lots and lots of decent vintage 1-BRs in your price range. I'd avoid the Wedge if looking for quiet; while there are some beautiful apartments there, my general sense is that you are more likely to have quiet neighbors if you stick to south of Lake Street or west of Hennepin. There are a number of beautiful cat-friendly 1920s buildings along Fremont and Girard south of 31st that are quite nice; don't know anyone living in any of them currently, but I know there are some rentals available. And it gets quieter if you go just a bit more south, say 33rd or 34th, but still puts you in easy walking distance to the amenities of commercial Uptown (and convenient bus access).

Wonderful advice, I'll start taking a look on Craigslist, since Rent.com isn't doing much for me right now!

Try using pad mapper, it's an app and website. They find a lot of listings on Craigslist and elsewhere based on your criteria.

I second padmapper! That's what I used when I was looking to rent, and I loved the interface. It's very easy to use for pinpointing exactly what you are looking for: budget, bedrooms, bathrooms, etc. The results are displayed on a map, which makes it super simple to make sense of what you are seeing.

If you expand the "more filters" section, you can search for only places that accept cats.

Good luck in your search, you got some good advice about craigslist and especially padmapper.

I am curious what is it about the Edina apartment that you dislike in particular? Excepting really high-end units and slums, a city or a suburban apartment is an apartment is an apartment, no?
