...And I have one big question. (If its answered elsewhere, don't be afraid to just post the link, I'll take it from there ) After some searching and not finding what I want....

Which areas of Minneapolis/ St Paul should one stay away from/ not live in? I'm from Tucson, AZ, and I've heard our gangs are wannabes compared to the hardcore dangerous gangs up in Minn...

We'd like to live somewhere relatively safe, and if my husband gets the job, I believe it is on the NW side of town.

Thanks in advance!

I've heard that from many people who say Tucson based gangs are laughable.

??

Honestly Im scared sh*tless of what I hear about Minneapolis and crime. Call it it an extremely newbie, ridiculous question, but I have no idea where to look for a safe place to live up there.

depends on who you ask.

A few choice neighborhoods in North and South Minneapolis may be less than favorable. Ive never felt my personal safety was compromised in any neighborhood here, though.

by the northwest side of town do you mean the northwest suburbs or northwest minneapolis? I wouldn't suggest living in North Minneapolis. If you want to stick close to Minneapolis St. Louis Park is nice along with Eden Praire and Edina(edina is a bit ritzie though) otherwise I could name a million suburbs nw of it. I will be living in one of them in less than 2 weeks

Do you want to live in the city or suburbs. If the job is in Blaine then I would look to Maple Grove or Mounds View. Both of these towns would give you easy commutes to work and are nice areas. I would not recommend the Blaine schools but if you don't have to worry about kids then live right there.

As for crime, I think you are misinformed about the level of crime even in the worst parts of the city of Minneapolis. I would venture a guess that Tuscon is worse then Minneapolis. As far as the suburbs go, usually the worst things that go on here are kids getting their bikes stolen.

Well, let's see some comparisons:

Looks to me like neither city is heaven on earth.

Then if you plug in the suburban towns into your second example then the crime rates go down to 1's and 3's vs the 8's in Minneapolis.

Suburbs would be nice. We have no kids, but plan to someday.

Wow, I had no idea Tucson was that high in crime; it doesn't seem like that. I grew up there and wasn't afraid. Guess I'm freaking out over MPLS more than I should...
