Hello!
My family and I (my husband and 3 y.o) will begin house hunting in the spring

We are primarily looking @ the Dayton's bluff area, primarily due to it being one of the few areas we can afford

We are not squeamish about urban enviornments, as we have lived in various parts of the city for 20 years, including the midway and Selby- Dale when it was still a bit dodgy 20000-2003

Given that, due to having a young child with plans for at least one more, we can't risk living in an area with REALLY high crime

Ideally we would like a neighborhood with other young families, and would like to avoid too many rentals as in my experience those tend to attract people who are not as invested in the neighborhood, may be loud at night, etc

Any suggestions as to blocks/areas to look into or avoid?

Thank you!

Dayton's Bluff had a rough month for crime in January, but generally speaking, it's slightly better off than neighborhoods directly to the north and west of it. Areas with low property values are going to attract more real estate investors, which in turn generally means more rentals.

I have very good friends who live in the West Seventh neighborhood and love it, so you might want to check that area out as well.

Personally that is where I would like to move, but I can't convince my wife that it is worth the risk. I'm convinced that it is going to soar. Look near the strip club (as in strip steak, not dancers).

Great history, fantastic location. It was pegged as the next neighborhood with great potential for ... I dunno, gentrification is the only word that comes to mind ... a few years ago by City Pages, after Nordeast took off and became an urban hotspot.

I thought it would get a wave of buyers given those two points and the prices for some unique homes, many needing TLC but many with great character, especially with the new Saints ballpark going in and all that is attracting just over the bridge from Dayton's Bluff. Perhaps set back by the Great Recession, like everything else.

Like HiFi, I would like to move there.
