While viewing the PBS News Hour broadcast a few evenings ago, a 9-minute segment aired where news anchor, Judy Woodruff traveled to the Twin Cities and produced the news story interviewing: public officials, university professors, young professionals of many ethnic backrounds along with the author of the recent detailed magazine article in "The Atlantic Monthly" which described Minneapolis -St. Paul as the best city in America, particularly for the Millennial Generation.

The news segment highlighted how the Twin Cities are thriving for career/income upward mobility and for affordability, which according to the journalists from PBS Television and The Atlantic Magazine, if a city ranks high for career advancement they usually rank low in affordability and vice-versa. Not the case in MSP, which in their study was the only one to rank high in both.

Racial disparities were also adressed in the news broadcast. Their focus however was mainly on what they called "The Minneapolis Miracle".

Great place to live, as long as you're not black.

Looks like the Minnesota propaganda machine is in full swing. If you are a Millennial, Minnesota is the absolute last place you want to live.

Yes, Minnesota is definitely last. Personally, I encourage millennials to embark upon their new careers in midstate Alaska.

It's great if you're 25 and want to buy an 80 year old house and get to livin' like a 45 year old 20 years early.

Doubt very much that Minnesota has a "propaganda machine", or would even have a need to start one, but thanks anyway..

That's one option, but rents are also a lot cheaper; 20-somethings benefit from good job options and relatively low rent, meaning they can afford to live in a more interesting neighborhood or a nicer place and still have money left over to go out, travel, or -- a reality for many young people today -- pay off their hefty student loans.

I can believe it, Minneapolis especially, since it's more like a West Coast city that somehow ended up in MN. And that being the case you get the most complete city experience here vs other large Midwestern cities outside of Chicago. While they may have some great assets they tend to be severely lacking in something. For example, coming from Ohio, Cleveland has the best mass transit hands down, but not enough good neighborhoods with interesting, and safe, places to go. Columbus and Cincinnati on the other hand have a decent amount of good neighborhoods, but horrible mass transit to get from one to another (needing a car ups the low cost of living by a decent margin). And if you want to bike in any of them, well, they look like the Stone Age when it comes to that: nowhere near Minneapolis or any major cities on the coast for that matter.
