places in the Twin Cities to take good pictures of industry (St. Paul: apartments, loft)

This summer I'm going to take some photography and start an album. are there any places are on the twin cities where I can take pictures of the industry. I need areas of railroad tracks smokestacks. Old warehouses. Etc.

There's a huge interchange of railroad tracks as well as old warehouses in Northeast. Just take University north out of downtown and look left.

For its size, the Twin Cities don't have much heavy industry.

I second NE Mpls: there's a large rail yard along University Ave near St Anthony Pkwy.

The downtown Warehouse District has many impressive older brick & timber loft buildings along First Avenue north and Washington Avenue. They're mostly condos, apartments or office space, but not all.

Also check out Hwy 280 near Hennepin and University Ave on either side of Hwy 280. More mills and grain elevators than actual industry.

Hiawatha Avenue, south of Lake Street has grain elevators and rails, too

In St. Paul, look around Energy Park Drive, Kasota & Pierce Butler Route generally between Hwy 280 and Lexington Avenue.

The most impressive smokestacks are found at the Koch Refinery 15-20 miles south of St. Paul near Hwy 52 and Hwy 55 north of Coates and near Rosemount.
