Everyone i have made south minneapolis my number 1 choice to move. Reasons are diversity and walkability. Also minneapolis public schools bus out. So the kids can still go to richfield schools. See im hoping to get a job back east asap. So i dont want them to go to a new school, then when its time to move, switch schools again. Now when i say diverse, i mean more than 2 black families. when i say walkable, that means grocery or corner stores, daycare/preschool,parks/playground, clothes shopping, restaurants. food shopping is a must. if my car breaks down i wanna be able to walk to get food. I see Bryant, Central, Seward, windom as choices. What is the best neighborhood?

You may want to look up information regarding busing--I don't believe that Minneapolis will bus your kids to Richfield. Best to figure that out before you move.

yea i called minneapolis public schools. they said they stopped busing out because of lack of funds. So kids would have to find their own transportation. I still want to move to south minneapolis. I absolutely do not want to stay in edina/richfield

Why are you so set on sending your kids to Richfield schools, just out of curiosity? I ask because there appear to be good public, charter and private options in Minneapolis proper.

because my ultimate goal is to move back to the east coast. I don't wanna move the kids school twice.(Richfield to Minneapolis, Minneapolis to philly/dc)

You (obviously) know your kids better than anyone, but I will say that a) my kids didn't miss a beat starting new schools this past fall (grades 1, 4 and 6)-- b) it's fantastic to have neighborhood/school friends (rather than to have to travel for playdates/afterschool activities) and c) nothing beats bus transportation and not having to do drop off/pick up twice a day

SO, unless you think that your kids are particularly adverse to change.. or you have enough flexibility to do the twice daily run-- switching schools might not be as stressful as you might fear.

I personally don't find South Mpls to be leagues ahead of Richfield in terms of diversity or walkability either. Why not just stick to Richfield? If you wanted you could move somewhere in the northern portion (between 62 and 66th) and that way you're right on the edge of the city.

I'll tell you the primary distinction between the two....sidewalks. If you can live without them then Richfield is do-able. That being said I do hear you. That's why the last two homes I've bought were in South Minneapolis.

Frogtown in St Paul. All the diversity you want and then some. And it will get you ready for the East Coast.
