I'll be in town next weekend to do some recon. I work at home so commute is not an issue. I do have a late teen in community college who does not drive so being in an area where she can catch bus or train to work and school will be a priority. It will also help extend the life of my car so that money can go towards housing.

I've been on craiglist and searched for rentals (like townhomes) near light rail. Got a lot of hits in Ramsey. Would like to get some opinions on the area or others that I should focus.

I assume you mean Ramsey the county, not the suburb (which would not be a good choice). Living along the Green Line between Minneapolis and St. Paul would be convenient for people depending on public transportation. The train is great, and there are also good bus connections. Some neighborhoods along the line are nicer and/or more convenient than others. Does she know where she'll be going to school? Somewhere around Midway would be convenient for either st. paul or Minneapolis. I like the area around Prospect Park or Raymond station better, though, and you'd still be a quick LRT ride from the big stores when you need them.

If in school in downtown Minneapolis, Uptown is also a really good area for those living without a car; no train, but lots of convenient bus connections in all directions and you can walk to everything you need.

I'm betting it's Ramsey the city in the ads. Places near the North Star station I would guess. That's probably not what you are looking for. The North Star trains are really only a commuter train that runs 3 times a day. It could work for a commute to a few locations, but it will be pretty much worthless otherwise.

Yes, i had multiple searches and now realize that it is ramsey county/st paul and not Ramsey the suburb. defintely StPaul seems to has some excellent options but it will be a considerable downsize. Oh well, i need to reduce clutter anyway.

ill look into midway & prospect park. Havent seen any rentals for those two areas.
Thanks for the suggestions
