I like Sweeny's quite a bit.

I think the attitude fits with all of the places mentioned. Decor? Meh...the decorative selling point of most "authentic" bars around here is probably the popcorn machine...

The owner's a surly pr*ck who really has no business in the hospitality industry. They are also real Nazis about checking ID's. I used to live near there and was frequenting the place before it got ink in the CityPages "Best Of" edition. I went in there enough that the bartender knew me by name. Forgot my ID one night and they wouldn't serve me. I'm 45 y/o!. Same thing happened a couple month later. A friend who is in his 50's wasn't served because he didn't have his ID. His f'ing 50's! If you're a real Whiskey fiend it's great for that, otherwise highly overated imo.
