Many credit unions can only accept members with a certain affiliation or geographical area. Which part of town do you live in?

Ally or CapitalOne 360. Online only. so when they send you an ATM card, shred it and there is no way for you to take out cash because they have no physical locations. You could effectively do the same thing with Chase as they have no locations anywhere in Minnesota.

im in edina. I have never used an online bank. I still prefer a physical location. Perhaps one in minneapolis/st paul. Because i will not drive to minneapolis or st paul or a daily basis.

I'd suggest Bremer Bank. It is local - headquartered in St. Paul - and only operates in MN, WI, and ND. It invests heavily in the community and provides excellent service. You don't need to have a debit or ATM card with any account but can enroll in online banking to make bill paying easier. As an added bonus, there is a location in Edina where you reside.

I personally have had nothing but a great experience with them.

I have been a member of the Affinity Plus credit union for many years; its bill pay site and app work great. There is only a handful of locations in the Twin Cities. Good advice on shredding the debit card - or just tell them to not issue it and send it to you.

Connexus Credit Union (formerly Endura). A couple branches in the area and only a handful of ATMs.

I opened my account online (no necessary qualifications) and occasionally go to the branch at the Honeywell plant (Golden Valley, intersection of Douglas and Duluth).

An added benefit is that it's an interest-bearing checking account.
