Is the west actually sunnier than the east metro and surrounding areas?

I couldn't find any data that broke it down specific to the suburbs, but weather systems tend to be large, so I can't imagine it would vary much. Usually you need large bodies of water or major elevation changes to have much of an effect on climate in such a small area.

I did, however, find that Minneapolis is sunnier than Milwaukee, Nashville, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Detroit, Indianapolis, Portland, Seattle (duh), St. Louis, Washington, Baltimore and Buffalo. So we got that going for us.

With no significant changes in elevation and no bodies of water large enough to affect the cloud cover anywhere close to the metropolitan area, the long-term differences in cloud cover from one part of the area to another is going to be nothing more than minute statistical float.

Exactly. We don't have micro climates in the metro area. We all get the same weather here.

I'd like to think so, only because my sunny disposition always makes things brighter!
