I have the opportunity to purchase a home near 42nd and Snelling. I'm not too familiar with this area, and it's certainly more of an industrial feel. I currently live by Lake Nokomis and love it. My budget allows me to buy around Nokomis, but the house on Snelling is a family members and a fantastic deal.

I value safety because I have a child and a significant other. If I were single I'd be way less concerned.

Would this area be fine for a younger couple with a child? I like to go on walks, walk my dog at night without worry. My current area I can do all those things at truly any hour.

I know there are a lot of apartments around there which doesn't bother me, but I wonder if it's a busy neighborhood because of that? I live just enough away from Nokomis to be in a nice quiet neighborhood which I really love. I'm younger, but I sort of enjoy living around folks older than me in an established neighborhood.

I would really appreciate your insight!

I live very near where you are going to be looking. There are many young families in the area, including both my neighbors. Your block won't be terribly busy, only the blocks with apartments directly on them get busy and even then it isn't bad. Sometimes people speed down Snelling but that's perhaps the biggest danger in the area.

There's a gorgeous green house on the corner of 42nd and Snelling and I proactively envy you if that is the one you are moving into.

Homes is South Mpls are flying off the market. Buy this house if the price is reasonable. Flip it for immediate profit if you don't like it. A few blocks East and the neighborhood is very nice. Cross Hiawatha and things get nice. Those blocks that run parallel to Hiawatha (Snelling/Dight) are so-so imo.
