Hi all- I'm asking for my brother regarding commute.
He lives by Burnsville Center mall. He just got a new job in st Louis park at 435 Ford Road. 169 & 369 intersection area. His hours are 8 to 5 or 8 to 4:30. I guess 169 is blocked off so he was curious as any tricks or short cuts to avoid a brutal commute? THANKS

Use Waze. It can change pretty much every day.

Not an enviable commute, especially now with 169 being out of commission until September or whenever. 494 may end up being the best for now, but as MnMomma says, it can actually be super-variable, so it's hard to say before rushhour on any given day.

Does the construction in MN ever get better? It's literally a reason I contemplate if we will move back. We love everything including our family but my gosh construction there makes QOL pretty crappy during summer.

thanks all! Yeah he's kinda screwed. He needs the job, and w/o the 169 crap it wouldn't be much of a huge issue. He did it today for a test and it took 42 minutes. His buddies are saying he's getting off easy-some live in lakeville and work in Maple Grove or Anoka!!

This is a very weird reason not to like living somewhere. I mean yeah it's annoying but keeping someone from living here because of it?

Even with construction traffic isn't any worse here than similar sized areas.

That's true. I knew a guy who worked near the Mall of America, but lived in freaking Northfield, and others who worked in downtown St. Paul and commuted daily from Forest Lake. With commutes that far, some days you get lucky and it's "only" 40 minutes; other times it's much, much longer. That's what bothered me so much about my commute home when I lived in downtown Minneapolis and commuted to Prior Lake every day: if the stars lined up properly, I might get home in half an hour; if they didn't.... hell, there were days where I was stuck in traffic for an hour after I got off the highway. The memory makes me shudder.

No. People in the Twin Cities think anything over 30 minutes is a crisis. It's all a matter of perspective.

Will it be stop and go? Sure. Frustrating at times (like during weather events)? Sure.

But it won't be terrible. Unless your buddy is convinced it is. Then it will be.
