Minneapolis Police Chief Harteau Resigns, Mayor Nominates New Chief

July 21, 2017 06:47 PM

Shortly after the two statements were released, Mayor Betsy Hodges announced that she will nominate current Assistant Police Chief Medaria Arradondo as chief.

The announcement of Harteau's resignation came from the mayor's office at 5:48 p.m. Friday. At 6:33 p.m., Hodges announced she will nominated Arradondo as chief.

Harteau released a statement through the Minneapolis Police Department at 5:43 p.m.

The resignation comes in the wake of the fatal officer involved shooting of 40-year-old Justine Damond.

Of course it sucks. It's run by a bunch of dumb ass leftists who care more about plastic bags and pandering to loudmouth activist groups then they do to making this city safe and successful. .

If you don't like it here, go to Indianapolis, or some lacking city of that nature. We have a lot going for our metro and state, and a lot of that can be attributed to our politics and activism. Lots of people here actually have an opinion and voice that they want heard, and we have a higher quality of life here because of that. We also actually get a lot done here as a metro and state and rank high on most lists of best places.

But if you think it sucks, move somewhere that you pay almost zero taxes that has no economy, no public amenities, and all your neighbors are trailer trash and your politicians are inbreds.

FloatOn, I substituted a city clearly south of the Mason Dixon line in your post (Indy is actually slightly north of it). Hope you don't mind. Indianapolis has the same last 6 letters as Minneapolis and has also hosted the Super Bowl. Let's cut them some slack. Lol.

As to the topic, so far I have heard positive things about Harteau's replacement Arredondo. Has good relations with the community.

(last paragraph)..........Was the same said about Harteau when she first got hired ?

I know the hiring was praised because of..........." First Lesbian Native American "
THAT fact and 50 cents can buy coffee at a café near me but shouldn't be the reason a Police Chief is hired.

(1st paragraph)....."our politics and our activism"

Like chanting............"First Lesbian Fire Chief" and " First lesbian Native American Police Chief " ?

How did that work out?

Hiring/promotions based on "pc" quotas rarely do work out.

What exactly is Indianapolis lacking? You do know the current mayor is a Democrat, right?

Don't mean to hate on any particular city. But for example, Minneapolis is ranked #1 for parks for US cities, Indy is ranked last. Few people travel there unless for car racing. It isn't a city known for high quality of life, and though you can get a house for dirt cheap, there's a reason - there's little demand for housing because there's nothing to draw people there. And yes, most of the country agrees that their politicians are questionable.
