I was in Minneapolis the first week of January. My wife and I toured 30+ homes but found nothing we liked. Her employer agreed to pay for temporary housing for up to four months. We have found two good short term rental options. One is in the 3900 block of Blaisdell in the north end of Kingfield. The other is in the 2700 block of Johnson Street NE in Audubon Park.

Which neighborhood is better for a young family?
Crime higher for one over the other?
Is public transportation better in one over the other?
Any daycare suggestions in either or close by?

Thanks!

Without a doubt the nicer of the two for me is kingfield, and the further south you go, the better. Kingfield is an up and coming neighborhood. Audubon park is an area you rarely hear anything about. Kingfield has the advantage of being closer to the lakes as well, which is a good things for many reasons.

Even though Audubon park is east of the missippi, that area feels like it belongs to "north" Minneapolis, which is west of the missippi, and altogether is not a good area.

Does St Anthony have that same feel? Part of the reason we narrowed down to the Audubon Park rental was because we are leaning towards buying in St Anthony.

I had friends on Benjamin, just a few blocks over, but maybe a bit farther south. Seemed very family-oriented to me, and nothing like North Mpls. They made use of nearby amenities like the waterpark and the other parks. No negatives that I know of.

I am not familiar with Audubon Park but we live in Kingfield and are very happy here. There are quite a few families with kids compared to some other parts of the city, and the amenities are outstanding.

My husband and I live with our 6 month old son in Northeast (not in Audubon Park but nearby) and we love it. Hazel's and Northeast coffee are so great, you'll love being within walking distance! Crime in Northeast is mostly theft, especially in cars and garages since those are detached, or packages on doorsteps. There are crime maps you look up to get more specifics. We do daycare by our offices in Plymouth so can't help there, sorry. There are buses that run on Johnson so you should be good, but it depends on where you are going.
