about 75 years ago we moved into a house at 3625 Colfax Avenue South. It was unusual because, apparently, it had been built before the road. When the road went through, the house was below road level, so a wooden bridge was built from the sidewalk down to the first floor of the house. Another series of steps went down from the bridge to the ground level of the lot, which was about 15-20 feet below street level. There was a slope downward from the sidewalk to the lot level. In the winter, kids would slide down the slope. We moved out about 70 years ago.Does anyone remember this house? Does anyone know about any changes made to it?

If it was around 70 years ago, then there is probably a road through part of the driveway.

I remember a number of houses below street grade scattered around south Minneapolis.

Are you sure of the address? Looks like an old apartment building is there now, but immediately across the street there is a lot and house as you described but it would have an even number address.

Yes I agree with Ghenhis. Look at his link, that house is below grade.

I noticed the same thing. It is possible-- though not necessarily probable-- that the numeration may have changed on that block in the past 70 years.

Nvm. the house in question is on the even side of the block, not the odd side, and that would not have changed.
