Is street parking not a thing/prohibited in the twin cities suburbs? Most of the google photos that I’ve looked at at different properties in different areas, I never seen any cars parked on the streets in residential areas.

In the suburbs, most people park in their garages or driveways. Overnight parking is typically prohibited, at least in the second ring suburbs.

Google photos tend to be taken during the day, when many are at work or school or otherwise away from home.

In Woodbury, there is a ban on parking 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. in the winter (11/1-4/1). Otherwise, no city regulation unless posted. Also, no street parking at all any time two or more inches of snow hit until cleared.

Eagan had an odd/even winter parking regulation during the day, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., when we lived there.

It is really uncommon for SFH and townhouses/twin homes to not have garages here in the suburbs, most of then two- or three-car garages. Even in MPLS and StP, garages are common for SFHs.

There is no prohibition for parking on the street in the suburb where I live but if it snows more than two inches and your car is on the street, you will get towed. Thankfully, we very few street parkers in the neighborhood. Why do I say this? I am more comfortable going the speed limit (30mph) when cars are not parked along the street (some kid might dart out behind the car). In Minneapolis, I slow down to 15 MPH down the side streets because both sides of the street have cars lining the curbs.

Where I live, there is one house about 1/2 mile away that is some sort of home for the disabled (only 4-6 patients), that has the workers cars parked on the street. I always feel a sense of irritation at the cars even though it is the only place with cars for the 1/2 mile it takes me to get an artery.

Most homes have at least a two car garage. Most people can fit 4-5 cars in their driveway and garage. My driveway size doesn't fit the current ordinance but I was grandfathered in because of when it was built. In other words, there is no need for most people to park on the road and it is considered odd to do so. If you do see cars or trucks, it is because someone has been hired to do work on the property.

Where I am in Maple Grove there's a ban on night time street parking unless you have some type of construction/driveway repair going on at your house and file for a temporary permit. I suspect many suburbs have similar restrictions.
