I understand that.
You must also understand that not everyone can afford to attend a game. To others, it's a tradition - They head to the parking lot, grill up some food, drink beers, listen to the game on the radio/watch on a tv, socialize, etc...

I wish that the University of Minnesota had better tailgating (probably would if they had better teams)!

Kicks tickets were cheap. Why else do you think we started going?

I had some time to think of new names for any potential MLS team:

Minnesota Mallards FC
Minnesota Loons FC
FC St. Paul Ice Kings/FC Minneapolis Bears
Polaris Minnesota(nickname North Stars)
Minnesota Northern Lights.

US Soccer should be set up like Europe where the worst MLS team gets relegated to the 2nd division and the champion of the 2nd division gets promoted to the MLS. If that were the case the NASL (North American Soccer League) would be considered the 2nd division and since the league was won in 2011 by the Minnesota Stars they would have been promoted into the MLS....so there you have it, our MLS team would be the Minnesota Stars!

Maybe, but I like names like the North Stars or the Northern Lights(reference to aurora borealis).

The MN Kicks had an average attendance of 32,775 in 1977, only Seattle beats that average attendance now in MLS.

Was a game ticket required to enter the parking lot for tailgate partying?

And tailgating isn't just a 70's thing, although I suspect things were a lot more permissive back then. (I've often wished I was in high school in the 70's instead of the late 80's-early 90's. It would have been more fun.)

Go to Kansas City or Milwaukee or Green Bay, or any number of college stadiums. Tailgating is alive and well. The problem with tailgating now at the U, is that many of the lots are a long way from the stadium, and the city is more or less a stick in the mud about people having fun.

for a year or two there were no restrictions on the tailgating but roundabout '78 or so they would sweep the lots after the game started and make people enter the stadium or leave. then after a few too many people got hit by wayward frisbees, they banned those and people started finding other places to party.

Why are Americans insistent on dumb team names like the Wild or the Heat? Why not just Minnesota FC?

I know its embarrassing, we must seem really childish to others with our unusual nicknames and team logos. Even Canadian MLS teams seem more professional (Impact is my favorite logo)
