Wow. Burch Steak. Sad.

Four-star Burch is the latest high-profile Twin Cities restaurant to close

Burch, the dynamic steakhouse and pizzeria owned by Isaac Becker and Nancy St. Pierre, will not reopen. The restaurant has been shuttered since mid-March 2020, when Gov. Tim Walz temporarily closed the state's dining rooms in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

Butcher and the Boars is back!!!

It will be interesting to watch to see if some previously closed restaurants get resurrected and how many new places come in.

When Hughes purchased Maverick's in 2018, his original expansion plan was to land in a downtown Minneapolis skyway. Timing is everything, right? Skyway lunch traffic has slowed to a near-halt during the pandemic, as a majority of downtown's office population works from home.

"It was blind luck that I didn't do that," he said. "But maybe there's going to be some good opportunity to get in there in the next couple of years."

The Stillwater location will be slightly larger than its Roseville predecessor, and will follow the same counter-service format. Hughes is aiming for an April 1 opening date.

Hope they expand to a easier to access location. Very good food.

I grew up near Mavericks', it was pizza place (Earl’s) when I was younger. My service cut the strip malls lawn for years. Place was always packed for lunch until the owners silent partner died, and maybe a family member of his also died. Then everything seemed to go downhill or was sold off.

For this second foray into barbecue, Smith is taking on a partner: Rapids Brewing Co. in Grand Rapids, Minn. Their collaboration will be called StormKing Brewpub and Barbecue, and it's going into the former ONE Fermentary & Taproom (618 N. 5th St., Mpls.) in the North Loop, not far from Smith's original Black Sheep Pizza.

"Beer and barbecue, it's such a great combination," he said. "And their beers are spectacular."

I thought the brewpub scene was pretty saturated. Smith is sensing an opportunity where are others see despair. The market will determine who is right and he might be following the Warren Buffet strategy of being bold when others are fearful and being fearful when others are bold.
