FOLLOW THE MATH:

MN Population: 5.64 million

"Confirmed" covid cases: 60,939. This figure likely MUCH higher since for every person tested and gets positive there are likely numerous individuals who are infected that do not get tested.

Deaths: 1698

And that is safe to say since JANUARY this virus has been around (thats being very generous, was likely here prior to that).

Death rate in comparison to population: .03%. Also, median age of death being 80 years old WITH co morbidities and other conditions in association.

Death rate in comparison to confimed cases : 2.82%. Innacurate figure as the ACTUAL confirmed cases that exist are likely ten fold in comparison to the 60k thats been reported.

Final thought: You figure it out. Use some common sense and logic here.

Health partners in st cloud closed. nurses have been furloughed all over the state. mpls rekt. handing out $$$ like candy devalueing the dollar. economy slumped...mortgages and rents not being paid. and its still summer. U think this is all about the virus and saving lives?

I know. Crickets.

I posted something similar on our hometown Craig's List. At first I thought it had been removed. Then I realized they didn't even post it.

Guess we're bound and determined to be distracted by Covid while the really ominous stuff is happening.

What you're seeing now (the OP's post is 11 days old...) is the result of what happened long ago (march).

In other words - the virus isn't causing that damage NOW in Mn - that damage was already done.
The death rate is known to be very low. That's why it's not what's important. It's the "running out of hospital beds" that is important. Not in St. Cloud. Anywhere in the USA. As long as it's possible - nothing's going to improve.
Think it can't happen? Take a few minutes today and read about the Dominican Republic. We were headed there next week until we called and spoke to our friends (yes, their up close observations match the news). It can happen. It IS happening.

The only thing that's going on most places is a poor understanding of statistics and exponential growth.

I hardly think the hospital system in the Dominican Republic can be seen as comparable to that of the US.

You ever been there?

It's the best care in the Caribbean. Lots of health "tourism" there for quality medicines and treatments at low cost.

They have about half the per-capita hospital beds as the USA - but they don't have twice the per capita infections, either - they are still overwhelmed.

I totally agree - you are not running out of beds in Mn - but at the moment, nation-wide care is all that's going to stop it.

Many of you - most of you, in fact - will do something for nothing. 99% of all mask wearing is useless. But that critical 1% is responsible for all the spread, and there's no way to know who it is - only solution is to ALL do it.

I use the D.R. as an example to show - it doesn't take much to tilt the ship. Fine one day, disaster the next.

Their policy is to not accept tourists unless you have a negative test in hand from this week. That's a heck of a policy, and one the USA could not enforce. And still - they are overwhelmed.

ROOOD, Your logic is flawed. What you say would make sense IF there was a high hospitalization rate, which there is not. The first thing thats suggested if you are suspected of covid is that you DO NOT GO to the hospital, instead the CDC says you should stay in self isolation and follow normal cold/flu procedures.

We are no where near running out of beds, we never were and we wont. Maybe in hotspots like NYC with extreme population density. But the USA is vast and populations vary and you cannot apply the same regulations in NYC to Wyoming.

The point is over 99% of people recover just fine at home. Thats the point. Its not about the misunderstanding of exponential growth. its the overstanding of a disease which at its worst is similar to that of the yearly influenza strains that roll through. It is something that is being made out to be far worse then what the reality actually is.

Did you see the pool party rave they just had in WUHAN?
