I'm from New York, don't know much about it

I assume the police in Minneapolis have had more budget cuts and are more restricted than elsewhere.
Is this true?

And is there a greater rise of crime in Minneapolis relative to other cities?

Also how much of an economic problem has been the result of those 20 building burnt down?

It’s not worse here than other major cities and certainly not as bad as Seattle, Portland, or New York. The whole country is screwed up.

With a little push, however, we are on the way to breaking our 1995 "Murderapolis" murder record.

Your point is well made although in my gyms, I'd say 60% of the millenial males are never wearing masks, even though they are supposed to when not at their immediate station. A better example would be the downtown Whole Foods. All hell breaks loose if someone were to walk in there without their little mask.

So currently how much have the police had their budget cut and restriction on procedures

What happened in New York is while the budget is still very high even though some millions were cut, they cut out a plain clothes unit who were effective in getting guns off the streets but they are had a lot of bad relations with the community

Also there's this law that got passed they call it the diaphragm bill where you can't pin down somebody you are arresting with your knees on their backs so it's hard to do an arrest on somebody resisting (although the vast majority of arrest don't get to that point)

What is the latest on the Minneapolis city council and abolishing the police. Is that going to happen?
And how many changes have been made since the riots ?

However thee are a lot of weird circumstances, unique the present time as per the murders going up

NY Times

Phillip Atiba Goff, co-founder and C.E.O. of the Center for Policing Equity, points to increased domestic violence as one possible cause of the increase in murder. “The first explanation that I have is that this comes from people being locked inside (during quarantines) and a lack of social services,” he said. “All those things are things that we would expect to lead to higher rates of violence. That’s speculation, though. I have no evidence that that’s the right thing other than the rise in calls for domestic violence.”

Mr. Ratcliffe agrees that increased domestic violence may be playing a role. He also hypothesizes that “Covid-19 could have reduced the market and opportunities for recreational drug use/dealing, which puts stress on the drug markets and increases violence.”

“If that is one of the causes, then we might see those tensions ease as lockdowns are relieved,” he said.

Here's a very important detail, how are the courts dealing with everything that's happened in the last few months? Are they all getting slaps on the wrists for murders, rapes, car jackings, robberies, rioting, breaking into banks?

The Burn, Loot, Maraud movement has been successful in neutering law enforcement in several major cities. Minneapolis is one of these. Until the residents of these cities wake up and smell reality, crime is going to increase.

A recent poll shows most Minneapolitans do not support defunding the police, but do support some redirection to mental health services.

Minneapolis is having a terrible year thus far, especially with murders being notably above prior years. But prior years had been relatively low. Several other cities are having worse numbers of murders than Minneapolis, especially Indianapolis and Kansas City among Midwest cities. Columbus has had almost 100 murders thus far, which is pretty similar on a per capita basis to Minneapolis given the population difference.

Is there a general sadness that permeates the population now, or perhaps a bit of "let's pick up the pieces and move forward" mentality?
