Thanks for everyone's input and help. So far my limited encounters with people at the bar, the Mall of America, my companies two offices, restaurants, etc have been pleasant. Everyone is generally nice and helpful. On another note, I'm dying to see this state during the summer, it looks like it's gorgeous. I had no idea. I will definitely have to make another trip up here in the future.
I am glad the cold hasn't driven you away, this is a very beautiful state, with many friendly people. You will get more lucky seeing more of us out and about in the spring, summer, and fall.
When it is below zero, we all cuddle up and stay indoors, glad your enjoying yourself though.

You are right on with your assumption. I was born and raised in Atlanta and moved up here from Mobile, as I said. After experiencing my first summer in MN, I realized that down south I spent my summers trying to stay indoors as much as possible. It's just too hot and humid to enjoy being out. In Minnesota, the opposite is true. The weather is so beautiful in the summer, I look for reasons to go outside. The long time residents here complain about humidity and heat in Minnesota, and since I've been here, there have certainly been days that are every bit as hot and humid as south Alabama or Georgia. But the emphasis is on days. Generally, a few days each summer will be pretty brutal and unpleasant. But that's just a few unpleasant days when compared to entire months of June, July, August, and September in the south. For me, no problem.

You're also correct in observing the beauty of the place. Pretty much as pretty as any place I've seen in the U.S. Glad you enjoyed your visit, and definately, make an excuse to return in the summer.
