My husband and I recently added a new baby to our little urban clan, and we have quickly outgrown our Lowry Hill condo. We are now struggling with a desperate desire to stay in the city and a need to raise our child in an equally safe and diverse environment. I know that Powderhorn has a lot of amazing community participation, but is it a safe place to raise a kid? Any good advice from people who live there??

Most of Powderhorn is very safe. There are a few areas to shy away from -I'll let Slig direct you down that path.

I totally understand your committment to the city, though. Good for you for sticking to it!

And congratulations on your new one!

Default Powderhorn

Powderhorn isn't Linden Hills, but it is now a fairly stable, diverse and affordable area. i wouldn't worry about crime, which I heard was down 25% in a few block radius of Lake-Chicago. Things are getting much better for that part of town, especially from where they were 20 years ago. Thank you for staying in the city, and the best of luck.
