Can you suggest or recommend any parking lots where people set up for tailgating? Why would the Vikings / Minneapolis / Metrodome not allow tailgating?

Because they have their own thing going on outside the metrodome and they want you to buy your food and drinks there.

Becaus e the city fathers worry that the 1% of folks who cant control themselves will run roughshod over the city. Just like its drinking laws, Minnesota tries to over-police 'festive' situations to make sure no one gets out of hand.
I have attended pro and college games in several states, often as a visiting fan, and have never had a problem with tailgaters. We all know a few people who tend to do stupid things when they drink. But the majority are just looking for some relaxation. But in MN they worry to much about unruly mobs. You probably dont remember Met Stadium during North Star and Kicks games. Lots of tailgating and good times until the city decided crowds were too big and a few fights started. Typical MN. Viking tailgating was rated worst out of 32 teams by SI.com.
