Hello!
I just moved to the cities a few weeks ago, and the place I found to live isn't turning out to be what I expected. It's a great place, renovated, new appliances, etc... but my roommate is just so-so and every time a door is opened it echoes throughout the place. Overall, there isn't a good energy there and I don't feel at home.

Anyways, I'm trying to find a sublet for this place and find a place a bit homier, yet still retain some features like new appliances, remodeled kitchen and bathroom, etc. Based on my taste, the places I like are about 1000-1200 a month for a single room or 2000-2500 a month for a two-bedroom. Unfortunately a 35k salary just doesn't support that.

Are there any recommendations on places in Uptown, Kenwood, Lynn-Lake, Linden Hills, Lowry Hill, etc., that are around $650 for a 1-bedroom or 1200-1300 for a 2-bedroom?

Thanks for your help... I'm getting fed up with Craigslist for posts and thought I'd try a different avenue with feedback from those who know the most (the cities residents).

JK

I know that you can find places in Uptown for that price range but just keep in mind that 'renovated' around the Twin Cities does not mean the same as it does in say, the West Coast.

Umm....good luck with that. $650 will get you a clean, safe apartment, but not one with stainless eteel appliances. I would imagine your best bet would be finding a landlord who only owns a building or two, or better yet lives in their own building, who would allow you to renovate their kitchen at your own expense.
There are some newer apartment buildings, Blue , the Sears Building and the renovated Eitel Hosptial building on Willow Street (Loring City Apts or something along those lines) that are condo-grade rentals. They are simply more expensive, though.

The apartments in the old Sears Tower are really nice, and they are huge. They also accept section 42, which might get you close to the $650 range.

Didn't know that -- interesting. Suppose it depends on her income, her willingness to do the paperwork and her willingness to move from the areas she listed.

Good point. I am really liking the Chi-Lake area lately, though. It sure has come a long way.

The changes to that area are nothing short of miraculous.

I know a girl who lives in the midtown building and has the section 42 deal set up and she digs it. Its a pretty awesome building. I looked at places there once.

I looked at what condos were going for there the other day out of curiosity and was surprised by how much they've dropped the price. You can get a 1 br condo there for under 130k. That's a pretty nice price for a brand new condo.

I am curious what they're charging for those Corridor Flats condos right across from the YWCA.
