In this environment, it's best to stay with houses which can be resold easily. That means staying in first ring suburbs with good schools. I would expand your search to older homes as many have been renovated. I live in Edina and real estate values are firmer than outer ring suburbs. The commute to the airport is easy although traffic is complicated by endless construction on the Crosstown/62 and I-494 corridor. Twin Cities is less dense than many metro areas so houses close in often come with more land. If you look at employment growth in the area, it is to the SW and real estate values reflect that over time.

You might want to at least consider some of the neighborhoods along the Hiawatha light-rail line. The houses tend to be older, although there are some newer places mixed in. Athough it might not be as much outdoor space as you're hoping for there are other benefits: a quick easy commute to the airport (the train brings you right there), proximity to the Mall of America, plenty of outdoor park space, proximity to both official dog parks as well as just nice walking paths to walk the dog, a direct and easy way to get into downtown to watch sports, and good restaurant and bar options. The light rail is very nice, and very convenient for airport employees. Even if you don't take the train the area is still worth a look due to places like Minnehaha Park, Fort Snelling, and the Mississippi River. It's also quiet (other than airplanes, I suppose) and family-friendly. Your price range and willingness to commute will give you a lot of options in the metro area, but you should be able to find something that fits what you're looking for not too far away from the airport (because why spend time commuting if you don't have to? Especially in the MN winter!).
