Why is that?

If you're going to build a 18,000sf plus home why not cover it in 24k gold, Louis XIV style, etc like in other areas i.e. NY, CA, FL, Las Vegas, Scottsdale, AZ, Dallas, etc, etc.. These homes would need $5M worth of updates... They're kind of embarassing to entertain in..., and these are the largest on the market.

Maybe Tom Jones would be willing to sell you his home in Vegas. It sounds like you are looking for something fairly tacky. Try the Liberace property, I heard it's for sale

these homes are much classier and look old money
not like the flashy pieces of shat monster stucco-marley-travertine-cherrycabinet-granite-counter-cheetahprint-ten car garage houses that you described (although there still are other nice homes in LA, MIAMI etc)

I was just in Minneapolis a couple weekends ago and went on a tour around a neighborhood that had some of the nicest "mansions" I've ever seen. I was actually surprised there were so many of them and in well-kept conditions. I can't remember the exact name of the area, but I do remember it was near a lake with a "lochness monster" in the middle. I shot some video of that area..I should post it on YouTube. I'll put up a link here if I do.

They had one of those in Lake Harriet so you may be referring to the Linden Hills area.

There has been a "monster" like that in Lake of the Isles for about the last month too.

That would be much more likely the case then. The houses on Lake of the Isles are far more "mansiony" than those on Harriet.

Yeah, it was Lake of the Isles and Cedar Lake area. Here's the short video I shot. Don't mind the music, I was playing around with some editing tools --

When we are in that area my wife and I always joke that we're going to live there once we're rich.
