Why are the good folks of Minnesota against using funds generated by gambling (casinos) to build the Twins and Vikes stadiums? It would reduce the tax burden on the average taxpayer. Those that gamble are going to continue to do so, and I dont understand why MN doesnt take a cut and build the facilities.

Is it greed, or that some commission wont get their mitts on the money, or lose influence (pocket money) for allowing a stadium?

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the money generated by the casinos go to the reservations? I don't think it belongs to the state.

I'm of the firm belief that casino revenues have already paid for the land that the stadium is on. You know, the land that we took from the Indians without payment.

Robert Kraft built Gillette Stadium and the Patriot Place shopping area around it with his own money, why can't Zygi Wilf do the same? Zygi is even a real estate developer.

Why can't we add a stadium tax to each ticket to pay for the stadium?

The current name is Canterbury Park and there is also Canterbury Card Club located at the Park. It was at one time named Canterbury Downs.

It is not located on Indian land, but it is very close to Mystic Lake Casino

The Dome is a terrible venue for baseball but it isn't THAT bad for football. Is there the possibility of extending the Metrodome lease another 5 years to give the state a chance to get its budget in order but make tentative plans to build a new stadium at that time???

This would be too logical. Besides, teams (like the Vikes) are seeing a decrease in ticket sales and are practically handing out free tickets. They'd end up paying for their own stadium (which no one will fill anyhow) and well, we can't have that now can we?

I don't see why they need to build a whole new venue. I think the Vikes are just feeling some sort of 'sibling jealousy' ("THEY got a brand new stadium, why can't we???!!). Seems like a waste of money, especially "in this economy" (to throw out a starting-to-be-overly-used line). Take a fraction of the cost of building an entirely new structure and put it towards whatever issues people seem to have with the Metrodome.

False. Reservations are funded Federally. Well, a lot goes into Reservations, but more specifically, the monies get split a thousand ways into intersest groups among others.

I know in Duluth, Fon Du Lac Casino is on a parcel of land that is an indian reservation, basically the building itself, and a percentage of gross earnings are given back to the city.
