Can someone tell me something about this neighborhood? I've found some affordable houses, the crime maps seem good, but I've heard nothing good nor bad about it.

You don't want to live there, it is not a nice area and the houses may look good on the internet but they are not in person.

What part of this neighborhood (street names, etc.) are the houses in? While more of the larger neighborhood, from southwest of Irvine Park all the way out to 35E, is affordable, there are definitely better and worse "pockets" within it. I spent a lot of time a few years back in the older section around West Seventh and Smith, which has its share of inner-city grit alongside increasing gentrification...an interesting mix in any neighborhood.

There are some very decent older houses (running the gamut from Civil War-era structures closer to DT to 1920s-30s bungalows farther out) throughout this district, and more and more of them are being restored, which I like to see. Still plenty of independent businesses along West 7th--some restaurants, coffee houses, bars, services, etc. I like the character of that street.

Generally speaking, I wouldn't say "don't go there," as no section of the West 7th area is truly terrifying. Again, though, if you provide a bit more information about the specific areas you're wondering about, we will be better able to respond.
