I did Fare for All years ago.

I have thought about doing it again, but truthfully, the food wasn't all that good sometimes. The vegetables were always puny bordering on bad, or they gave us TVP [textured vegetable protein] ... it was hit or miss. Some months were great.

For the size of my current family, I really need to order 3 shares to have enough stuff for meals, so that's why I skip it thesedays... too much invested if we should happen to have an off month.

But for 2-3 years I actually did my volunteer time at the distribution site, and the community building opportunities were great. i was in the Whittier neighborhood of Minneapolis at that time.

I'd say try it for a month and see if it works for your family.... they have gotten bigger and their buying power is no doubt stronger than when I was doing it. Try to get feedback from regulars.

BTW, there is a brand new ALDIs, as of last weekend, at Ruth, just south of I-94, in St. Paul. [Less than two blocks from me - yeah!}

Looking at the Fare For All Website just now, it looks like they have evolved and you can get a meat-only package now. I suspect that will be a good deal, regardless of the prices you may be able to snag at ALDIs. I might even sign up for a month or two and give it a try again.

But also keep an eye out for clearance sales at CUB Foods. Last week my husband found 3lb tubes of hamburger for $2.97 EACH [99 cents a pound] When he came home and told me the price, I headed straight out to the store and filled my cart with hamburger tubes, and I also found Jennie-O turkey brats and sausages on clearance. My total bill was $42.xx and my SAVINGS was $69.xx - how often do you see THAT kind of savings on a grocery store receipt?????

Do you hate trying to find a quarter for ALDI's?? Her's an idea for you... CartQuarter.com | No more Changes to unlock the Shopping Cart
