Looking to get advice on Minnesota...moving from small town (600 ppl) to take a job in Minnetonka.

What are the best options near Minnetonka to find rural living that is affordable and family friendly?

What's your definition of affordable? How far are you willing to commute?

The closer the better...willing to commute 35-40 miles if needed. Affordable is a 3br home under 250K.

I would likely rent by myself for 6 months...family will follow after that. Can anyone give me an estimate of what rent would be for a 1 bedroom apt. Any advice on where? Doesn't need to be rural, but needs to be in a safe area and with in 20 minutes from Minnetonka.

Default Try this, Saint Louis Park, Hopkins, Minnetonka, Golden Valley, and Plymouth

if you have 6 months of time to study, try those places I said. All those places are almost within 6-8 miles radius from minnetonka. Cost wise I will arrange it like this from cheaper to costlier
Hopkins, St.Louis Part, Golden Valley, Plymouth, Minnetonka. And for a single bedroom the prices range from 600-?????. And for the price of 350K I am sure you can find house in minnetonka. And I am not sure how rural you want.

You can be reasonably rural going west of Minnetonka about 30 miles.

"if you have 6 months of time...try those places I said." Could you please mention those place again? I'm in similar situation: moving to Minnetonka and looking for one bed apt to rent for 6mo--prefer it close driving distance to Opus Parkway, MN.
Cheers,
acmilan

Minnetrista, St. Bonifacius, and Waconia are all excellent areas within a short drive of Minnetonka. I used to visit these areas quite often when I lived in Minnetonka and I love that small town, close to a big city feeling you get in these areas. If I had to pick from these, I would go with Waconia, since it really is a small town with shopping, a downtown type area and a nice lake that has a few nice restaurants and beaches. In terms of your price range of $250,000, I think all of these areas would work and I just checked a real estate website and even found a 3 bedroom, 1 bath house that is in Minnetrista on a channel leading to Lake Minnetonka for $189,000.

I'd check out St. Bonifacious, Watertown, Waconia & Delano for semi-rural living- these are towns at the very edge of the Western suburbs and here you begin to see farmland. We live in Delano- I've posted a lot about the town if you go back & read my posts. Good luck!

For both of you, try renting in hopkins, st.louis park. There are plenty of apartments in this area and I think u can find a one for $600. I think atmost you will have to drive not more than 4 miles. And for $250K a house in minnetonka, I am not sure. But $350k will do the job.
